The other day I got to touch the Berlin Wall, and visited the site where president Ronald Reagan challenged Mr Gorbachev to open the world to the millions of people who were essentially trapped inside East Berlin. Later, I visited the museum at checkpoint Charlie and learned so much more about the cold war and the lives of people living in, and trying to escape East Berlin. It was creepy, sad, and absolutely fascinating.
We have been walking through so many historical places during this trip, and all of it has been amazing, but the events of the cold war were so recent that it was more relatable than anything I've seen so far. However, even as there are high tensions in the world today with the threat of terrorism, I cannot imagine living during the time when the world's superpowers spent their energy pointing missiles at each other.
