Museum day
Today we went to Museum Island, an area of Berlin that houses 5 great museums. The museums in the island are the Altes Museum, the Neus Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Pergamon Museum, and the Bode Museum. The first museum we went to was the Neues Museum, which was a museum that housed a bunch of Egyptian artifacts along with several different exhibits. The different exhibits were of early history; one I liked in particular was one of the ancient Greeks. In the Egyptian portion of the museum, my favorite part was a small exhibit that had bowls of different seeds and friuts that they would harvest back then. Another one of my favorite exhibits from this museum documented the history of beards, and how beards have been looked at differently by different cultures and in different time periods. For example, did you know that in ancient
Egyptian times, some women would wear fake beards to show that they had wisdom.
The other museum that we visited was the Berliner Dome. Words (and pictures) cannot adequately capture the greatness of this church. Unfortunately, the outside was closed because of renovations so we could not go up to the top, which has one of the best views of the city. At the bottom was a crypt that housed corpses centuries old.
