Indian Palace in Leipzig |
Up the lighted stairway |
Last night, in the midst of surrounding myself with an unfamiliar culture, I got a taste of home. A seemingly extravagant Indian restaurant called "Indian Palace," that lived up to it's name in both the decor, and the presentation and taste of the food.
In order to enter, I ascended a large lighted staircase presided over by a giant Buddha statue, the faint sound of bajans filling my ears.
As a practicing Buddhist and Hindu, nothing could be more warming during this cold winter excursion. I ordered a mango lassi and a paneer dish, something I was very familiar with, humming softly to myself as the music switched between traditional Indian Bajans and more modern Bollywood pop songs. When the dish arrived I noticed the paneer was cut into triangles rather than the cubes I was expecting. I suppose even Indian restaurants do it different in Germany.
I enjoyed the food immensely and will return tonight for round two, before we all go listen to the Gewandhaus Orchestra play Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff.
The food in Leipzig has all been fantastic and I look forward to continuing on this musical culinary adventure!
