The adventure begins!

Our first day in Leipzig has been a success! The extra long travel day was rough, but last night I had some really good schnitzel and managed to sleep pretty late this morning in comparison to some of my fellow travelers (thanks melatonin)! We started out the day with a walking tour of Leipzig, and our guide was hilarious! I took this course in 2014, but we spent very little time here and did not have a tour guide. It was fascinating to hear about the history of Leipzig from a local! After the tour Collin, Will and I went over to the Krieg, which is a government building with architecture reminiscent of Hogwarts. It's the same building we got locked in on the first day of the trip in 2014! Before the tour in the morning the guys found out that there is a tour to the top tower of the building at 2:00, so we raced over as soon as our walking tour was finished. It turns out the tour was given by a security guard, who led us through several locked doors and up a ton of stairs to get to the very top! He tried to tell us the process of getting up to the top in German, and I understood enough to tell the that we were taking an elevator to the 4th floor. My German is pretty limited to numbers and English cognate words, so I didn't understand much else of what he told us but the view at the top of the tower was amazing! After that we wandered around the city some more and poked around in St. Thomas and St. Nicholas' church.

The man himself!

St. Nicholas has a beautiful interior!

We also saw a fountain show in a 5-story department store that our tour guide mentioned- every hour there is a 5-minute light and water show set to music! It was a very impressive department store and they also had some comfy chairs to write this blog post in.

We were on the top floor and the fountain shot all the way up to our level!

Leipzig is off to a promising start so far, I can't wait to start our musical adventures and see the Gewandhaus brass quintet tomorrow!

  1. Very exciting to see the photos! Sorry to hear about your repetition compulsion to get locked up in the Krieg, but now that you've mastered that building, the rest of the trip should be a breeze.
